About Ettaline Hill
I offer shiatsu treatments from my practice in Oxford. I am fully qualified in shiatsu, having completed a 3-year training course with the London branch of the Shiatsu College. I keep up to date by doing additional courses. I am a member of the Shiatsu Society and follow their guidelines and code of ethics.
For anyone who has not tried shiatsu or maybe hasn’t ever heard of it before, here are a few words of explanation. Shiatsu is a Japanese physical hands-on massage-type therapy that can help you with a whole range of physical, emotional or mental issues and conditions. It is usually, though not always, done on a futon on the floor and the person being treated remains clothed throughout the treatment. If it is difficult or uncomfortable for a receiver to lie down, then the treatment can be done with them sitting on a chair.
Shiatsu therapy is based on the same principles as acupuncture, but without any needles being used – great for those of us who hate needles! As a shiatsu practitioner, I believe that energy, which you may have heard referred to as ‘chi’ or even ‘ki’ (the Japanese version, and the word I use) flows around the body in channels or meridians a bit like blood flows around the body in veins and arteries. When it’s freely flowing, ki brings fresh, strong energy and carries away spent energy along with toxins.
I am now also a teacher of Taichi Qigong. I offer classes on executive education and university courses, including to senior managers of FTSE100 companies. Feedback from participants has been very positive - "After your class, I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in ages.", "During your class, my shoulders unlocked at last and they still feel great a few days later." My training, work experience and any achievement
I completed my shiatsu training with the London branch of the Shiatsu College and, following my 3-year course, then volunteered as a teaching assistant for a further 2 years. I have done a number of courses specialising in dealing with back pain and back complaints. This is a particular interst for me as I am aware of how debilitating back pain can be. Helping relieve this can, in many cases, be a very achievable outcome of treatment.
I have done courses in seated shiatsu massage with the Shiatsu College and other practitioner teachers.
I am a qualified Teacher of Tai Chi Qigong and successfully completed a 2-year teacher training course with The Shiatsu College, achieving a teacher trainer qualification.
