About Dr Anne Guy UKCP Reg; MBACP (Accred), MUPCA
I am an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist who offers face to face counselling and psychotherapy for adult individuals and couples in the Basingstoke and North Hampshire area.
The practice is based from my office in the centre of Basingstoke and being just 5 minutes from the M3 is easily reached from surrounding areas such as Alton, Fleet, Hook, Newbury and Winchester.
I aim to be non-judgemental and welcoming and it’s important to me to help create a warm relationship that will enable you to talk about whatever you need to.
My training has been founded on a belief in the importance of our unique experience of the world as individuals - sessions therefore will be led by whatever is important for you to talk about. My approach is broadly psychodynamic which involves a focus on the unconscious and past experiences and their influence on current feelings and ways of being. However, I also consider the implications of other schools of thought; existentialism, humanistic thinking and psychoanalysis.
My training, work experience and any achievement
I have completed the following training:
• A Doctorate in Psychotherapy & Counselling (PsychD)
• Advanced Practitioner Programme
• Certificate in Couples Counselling
• Certificate in Counselling Skills
• Samaritans Listening Volunteer Training
• BA Hons (IIi) Philosophy/Sociology, Warwick University
• Various Continuing Professional Development workshops
Professional Memberships
I am a fully accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of their Approved Voluntary Register; a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist, an Accredited member of UPCA (the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association) and a member of SAFPAC (Southern Association for Psychotherapy and Counselling).
Experience
I currently work in private practice (including referrals from Private Medical Insurers and Employee Assistance Programmes) having previously also worked in a number of local GP surgeries and for two local counselling agencies (Life Changes Community Counselling Service in Southampton and Life Story Therapeutic Centre in Reading).
Before becoming a counsellor I worked as a senior manager for several blue chip financial services companies and a well-known conservation charity.
I receive professional supervision for my work and I abide by the ethical principles of BACP http://www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework/.
