About The Park Lane Practice
History: I discovered osteopathy after talking to an osteopathic student at a disco in Guildford; as I was considering a career in medicine I was interested. I have now been in practice for 32 years and qualified from the British School of Osteopathy. So you never know when (or where) career guidance will strike.
Who?: Osteopathy is suitable for all ages, techniques can be adjusted to treat the very young through to the very old. I use gentle mobilising techniques and cranial work.
What?:Osteopathy was developed in the 19th and 20th centuries, osteopaths take the standpoint that the musculo-skeletal system is the biggest system in the body; and the health or disease of the musculo-skeletal system will have a profound effect on the working of the rest of the body.
When?: Should you come for treatment? Osteopaths treat the person not the disease and each person is considered on an individual basis. Symptoms are an accumulation of stresses and strains (which can be physical, mental or emotional) which cause pain in the body. Treatment can help to release tensions in the body and thereby reduce symptoms.
Why?: Health is so much more than an absence of disease or pain. As an osteopath I am lucky to be able to consider the various influences on a client (i.e nutrition, exercise, stress, posture) to see why symptoms are occurring. Understanding this means I can tailor advice and treatment to individuals and help them towards a healthier function.
If you would like to discuss whether treatment would be suitable for you please give me a call.
My training, work experience and any achievement
I attained a Diploma in Osteopathy from the British School of Osteopathy in 1980 ( there were no Osteopathic degrees then). The course was four years full time with over two years of work in the schools on site clinic.
I have worked continuously in practice since. From 1982 - 2004 I was an undergraduate teacher at the British School of Osteopathy (BSO) both as a clinical tutor and a teacher of osteopathic technique. I left the BSO teaching in 2004 to run the Park Lane practice in Chippenham.
From 1995 to the present day I teach post graduate cranial studies, initially for the BSO and now for the Rollin Becker Institute. www.rollinbeckerinstitute.co.uk Further Information
