About Mike Lane Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a highly effective method of gaining access to the potential of the human mind for personal development and therapeutic change. Whether you want to stop smoking, lose weight, perform better at work, sport or exams, deal with insomnia, or manage stress better, hypnotherapy can help you to make positive changes.
Hypnotherapy is a state of relaxation, where you’re aware of what’s going on around you, but your focus is directed to your subconscious, where all your behaviours and patterns are stored. You have to want to make changes, and the more determined you are, the better they hypnosis will work.
Mike Lane will lead you through your treatment sessions. Mike has broad experience of life and has a professional, friendly and empathetic manner.
Mike will work with you through a initial consultation and treatment, and then you’ll go home to do work that will reinforce and support what you’ve done during your session
Just as soon as you are ready to make changes for the better, contact Mike to ask any questions and to book your first session.
Mike works from the York House Centre in central Taunton, where you’ll have a quiet, private space for your sessions. See contact details for address and telephone number.
Hypnotherapy is a gentle, yet powerful, intervention that will help you to make the changes you want, using the power of your own mind.
My training, work experience and any achievement
Mike has broad experience of life, from running his own business and working for large companies and all the stresses and strains that entails, to bringing up a family. Mike understands the challenges you face day to day; like everyone else, he has faced challenges with stress, lack of confidence, weight management, family issues and much more.
Mike brings empathy for his clients and an understanding and confidence in how hypnotherapy can make positive changes in many areas of our lives. He will put you at ease, and work as hard as he can to help you with the issues you bring to him.
Mike trained with Dr John Butler, one of the leading hypnotherapists in the world. Dr John Butler was a close colleague of Gil Boyne, a pioneer in the development of classic hypnotherapy therapy and training. This has given Mike a thorough grounding in the classic hypnotherapy techniques developed during the last 50 years by renowned pioneers in consultant hypnotherapy such as Dave Elman. Mike is continuing to develop his professional skills under Dr Butler. Further Information
Your first session will normally be 90 minutes so that there is time to discuss all the issues you want to deal with. We also need to get to know each other and get used to working together to resolve your issues. The extra half hour also allows us time to discuss how the session went and what we are going to do in the future. Subsequent sessions are usually 1 hour.
Do you offer a free consultation or taster session?
No. If you have questions about hypnotherapy and whether I may be able to help you, I am happy to discuss things with you on the phone or by email. Otherwise, we can do so much positive work in our first proper session, and it would be wasting your time not to get moving forward with your therapy immediately.
Unlike many therapies, I will not sign you up for a set number of sessions stretching into the future. Just one session may work for some issues, but normally between one and six sessions are needed. I will be very happy if you only need a minimum number of sessions with me!
Can you make any guarantees?
The only guarantee I can make is that I will give 100% of my skill and effort to help resolve your issues.
Do you offer recordings to listen to at home?
Yes, and it is vital that you follow up your sessions by listening to the recording. I record part of the first session for all clients, and give it to you to take home free of charge, or send as a file by email. This way, you immediately have something to work with, and get full value for money. If appropriate, I can make a personalised recording based on the knowledge I have of you, which I then give to you at our second session. Because this is personal to you there is a charge for this, but it is not ‘one size fits all’ recording, unlike commercially available recordings. This personalised recording will help you achieve success in your therapeutic journey.
Do I need to do any work myself?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand, and we both need to work together on your therapeutic journey. You will have to work at home, listen to your recording daily, putting into practice the techniques and therapy we have done together in our sessions. Daily practise makes a huge difference to changing your life.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Hypnosis is a natural state and as such is essentially safe and compared to many orthodox clinical methods is remarkably risk-free. Assessment of the risks of hypnosis by medical and psychological committees have concluded that hypnosis is essentially a safe and beneficial procedure and carries no greater risks than those associated with other psychological therapy methods.
Can I be hypnotized against my will?
The answer to this is a big no, despite what the media would lead you to believe. You are not in a ‘zombie’ like state, just deeply relaxed and fully aware of your surroundings. You could even get up and walk out if you wanted to!
What do I need to know before my first session?
To ensure you get the most from your initial session, please arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment time, to fill in some forms. Hypnotherapy will not be effective if you have used alcohol recently, so please do come fresh and ready for change. You will be very relaxed after the session ends, so it is advisable not to be in a rush to drive or go immediately into a stressful situation.
Do you work with children?
No, I do not work with anyone under the age of 16.
Are there any conditions or issues that you do not work with?
I do not work with anyone receiving medication for psychiatric issues, or who is under the care of a doctor or psychiatrist for these issues. All medication for any other medical problems should be declared before the session. Unfortunately, I do not work with anyone addicted to alcohol or drugs, or in recent rehabilitation.
How can I find out more?
Please ring or email, and I will be happy to explain more about what hypnotherapy involves, and how it might help you.
A Brief History of Hypnotherapy:
Hypnosis is a highly effective method of gaining access to the potential of the human mind for personal development and therapeutic change. The first documented use of hypnotherapy was probably around 1500BC - the Ebers papyrus in ancient Egypt. In the West, Mesmerism or Animal Magnetismas, the forerunner of modern hypnotherapy was first fully outlined as a therapeutic system in 1779. In the West, modern hypnotherapy had its origins in the work of Franz Mesmer, a Viennese physician practicing in the 18th century. Mesmer’s methods were known as Animal Magnetism or Mesmerism. In the 20th century leading pioneers in the field such as Dave Elman and Gil Boyne developed the techniques we use now.
