About Bapcounsellingyork
I offer long term and brief counselling and psychotherapy for emotional, psychological and interpersonal issues in my practice near the centre of York and 5 minutes from the station. I am trained in integrative counselling, brief psychodynamic psychotherapy and brief counselling for depression and have undertaken an initial course and Grad. Cert. in Group Analytic group therapy. I draw upon all of these theories and practises to find the most useful lenses through which to explore your current difficulties, depending on what best suits you.
How Therapy Can Help
In a safe and confidential place, we would work together to establish your therapeutic goals and work towards understanding and trying to alleviate your distressing feelings and thoughts. The sorts of issues people come with include:
• relationships – now and in the past
• low mood and depression
• self esteem and confidence
• stress and anxiety
• loss and bereavement
• gender / sexual identity and lifestyle choices
• trauma including PTSD, abuse and neglect
• phobias
• obsessional thoughts and behaviours
• anger management
• self harm
• medically unexplained symptoms
• life transitions
• self development
You may be suffering from specific symptoms or difficulties such as relationship problems, depression or anxiety or be confused about what you are feeling. You may be worried about how you get on with people or feel disconnected or isolated. Perhaps you find yourself behaving in ways which end up hurting you or others and you are mystified by why this is happening.
My clients have found my take on brief dynamic therapy to be particularly useful for understanding the origins of problems and for becoming aware of long standing automatic and habitual psychological responses which may no longer provide useful outcomes in your life today. This active, focussed approach aims to help you develop increased feelings of mastery and choice.
