About Lyn Reed
I offer a professional, confidential and non-judgemental counselling and hypnotherapy service. I believe that many of us are lost at some stage in our lives and therapy can help us to find a new direction.
The service I offer my clients is one which is tailor made to each individual - for whilst we may have experiences in common we are also unique with our own histories, values and beliefs. I believe in therapy being accessible to all where possible so I always willing to discuss individual payment with each client.
I am especially interested in working with people with chronic health conditions as well as those who are affected (eg carer/family members). More and more people are learning to living with one or more chronic condition and sometimes ’giving up on life’ is the only option. Yet as a tutor with Expert Patient Programme I was always humbled by the way in which participants changed their outlook and became more positive and assertive. Being aware of the body-mind connection is key to taking control of our condition rather than it taking control of us!
I also provide creative therapy, eg writing and through art which is particularly useful when working with children and young people.
My training, work experience and any achievement
Qualifications:
I have a B.A. (Hons) and M.A. (by thesis). I am also a qualified social worker Ad.Dip.Social.Admin/CQSW.
I have an Ad.Prof.Dip. in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Dip.Hypnotherapy & Counselling Skills. I have recently completed a course on Counselling Children and Young People. I have also undertaken a course of Art in Therapy.
Training:
I have trained as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist which simply means that I work with a range of theories and therapies suitable to the client and his/her presenting issues. This provides for a flexible approach, allowing for both short and long term counselling. I have also been a trainer for Expert Patient Programme - a programme helping people with long term medical conditions. I have been a tutor on assertiveness and stress management courses. I have supported and supervised both students and work colleagues in relation to managing stress, anxiety and pressure associated with their study/work place in the field of social work.
Work Experience:
My knowledge of working with people requiring guidance and support has been acquired by working as a residential care worker and social worker with adolescents, a probation officer working with young people, families, and communities. I have worked with children as a Court Welfare Officer, and with older people helping them to manage their long term health conditions. I have worked as a support worker with Mind and a volunteer counsellor with Richmond Fellowship, a mental health charity. I have my own private practice ’Meeting Minds’. Further Information
