About Hilary Stock
My role as your therapist is to be present alongside you whatever you are experiencing, and in an
atmosphere of warmth and respect, to facilitate a process where change can become possible.
How does this happen?
• you will be deeply and empathically listened to as you tell your story
• I will be there to help you process difficult and sometimes overwhelming feelings and experiences
• when appropriate and in a supportive way, I may also sometimes challenge you
• I will respond to you as an individual, and work according to your unique circumstances and needs
• creative techniques such as guided imagery, drawing and dream work may be used, if appropriate
• irrespective of theoretical approach and whether or not techniques are used, it is the therapeutic relationship itself that is the most effective and healing element of therapy
What are the benefits?
• the experience of being accepted as all of who you are by your therapist can lead you to be more
accepting of and compassionate towards yourself and others
• in coming to terms with the more painful aspects of your personality, you may also discover
qualities you did not know you had, which could open up new possibilities for you
• an in-depth exploration of your personality gives you the opportunity to find out and let go of what
might be blocking you from being all you could be, and to rediscover lost, exiled parts of yourself, strengthening your identity
• when we have a stronger sense of self, we are more equipped to face what is difficult in life, and better able to connect with what gives our lives meaning, purpose and value
My training, work experience and any achievement
As a professional musician for over 20 years and before that a linguist, sensitive Iistening and attention to detail have been at the heart of my working life. I trained as a counsellor at the Psychosynthesis Trust in London where I gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling, and have been working with clients since February 2015. I see adults of all ages, and have experience of working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss, trauma, abuse, addiction and eating disorders. Whether you’re seeking help in a crisis, looking to address a particular issue or to deepen your understanding of yourself, psychosynthesis therapy can help. It is a creative and holistic approach which works with body, soul and spirit, and has been called a ‘psychology of hope.’
