About Balancing Touch
I’m n experienced person centred counsellor with additional training in zero balancing and mindfulness.
I devised this approach so that participants could experience a connected way of working with body and mind. Sometimes when the body is balanced other aspects of our life fall into place. Sometimes having time to reflect on our life situation also includes taking care of our physical wellbeing. A Balancing Touch attends to the wisdom and sensing of the body as carefully as it does to the activity of the mind. It creates space for the creativity of interaction between body and mind, between sensing and knowing, between therapist and client.
My work is sustained and informed by my love of being in nature, walking, art, meditation and tai chi.
My training, work experience and any achievement
I originally trained as a language teacher and worked with adults and adolescents in industry and then in colleges teaching French and Spanish. I became increasingly interested in enabling people to develop emotionally and in 1995 began training as a counsellor at Warwick University. I have subsequently continued to work with adults and adolescents as a counsellor in Worcestershire and the West Midlands and developed my interest in working with the body, completing my training in ZB in 2007. I have worked as a counsellor in a variety of settings including a GP practice, CAMHS, colleges and for Employee Assistance Programmes as well as in private practice.
I have also been trained in focusing and in working expressively in therapy. I bring all of these influences and experiences into my work which remains person centred with a focus on what needs to be heard and what needs to be respected.
I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and a Certified Zero Balancer. I also offer clinical supervision to counsellors and other health professionals and am a facilitator in the ’working expressively’ module of the BA Hons in Person centred Counselling at Warwick University.
