I am an experienced counsellor/psychotherapist offering long term psychotherapy and short term solution focus counselling dependent on the individual need. I offer a safe, nonjudgmental and supportive space to individuals and couples. I work with adults, children and adolescents. I work to the needs of the individual and offer weekly, fortnightly, monthly and ad hoc supportive telephone work.
I was trained in a psychodynamic orientation, thus looking at how past events can influence our current situation and how we adopt destructive patterns of behaviour. I aim to help the individual discover these patterns and find alternative ways to reach their desire. Although psychodynamically trained, I believe that different approaches are needed for varying situations and thus work using various methods to suit the individual presenting issue. I also look at dreams as a source to the unconscious. My approach is very much client-led and it is a joint venture with me as a guide. I work to the motto that the client is the person that knows best about their situation.
I view the individual in a holistic manner and as such take a systematic approach to my work in that I look at societal and cultural pressures on the individual. I have particular expertise in cultural identity, internal racism and life transitions. I have extensive experience working with complex cases such as:
- personality disorders
- depression
- anger issues
- addictions
- and relationship conflict.
I work with individuals on the autistic spectrum, ADHD, severe depression, anxiety and eating disorders. I also undertake play therapy with children as well as working with storytelling. My experience has been gained through 12 years of work within NHS, working in the probation service and schools and in private practice.
Counselling/psychotherapy is a very personal experience. I appreciate that the decision to consider counselling for many can be a difficult step and has been reached as a result of a great deal of soul searching, anxiety and hope. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. Hope to hear from you.
