About Valerie Ward
I am a fully qualified therapeutic practitioner & clinical supervisor & a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) & I abide by their code of ethics. My training at Leeds Metropolitan University is accredited by the BACP.
The model that I have trained in is the Relational Approach. This combines the analytical aspect of the Psychodynamic Approach with the warmth of Person Centred therapy. I also consider other theories in my practice such as Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I have a wealth of experience working within the Primary Care Trust and have many years experience working independently in private practice.
I offer both long & short term therapy, working face to face with individuals & young people. I hold a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) enhanced disclosure. I work as an independent therapist from my rooms in Horsforth, Leeds, West Yorkshire.
People come for counselling or psychotherapy for many reasons. Sometimes problems and situations require professional help to resolve them, some people find they’re having difficulty coping, others want to use counselling for personal development. Whatever the reason, I am here to support you, and help you to find your own solutions. The counselling relationship can offer the space to talk through issues, explore situations and feelings without feeling judged.
I provide a safe, supportive & confidential environment, in which to explore problems which can enable you, the client, to gain a better understanding of your difficulties. This can help to build confidence and improve your ability to cope in a more informed way.
I chose counselling as a career after receiving counselling myself following a major crisis in my life. This has helped me to understand the process from a clients point of view. I believe I can help people to change and discover for themselves a fulfillment in life which may be eluding them at the moment.
With my experience of working with a diverse range of issues my approach has become integrated and varied, drawing upon a variety of theoretical models, tailored to suit the individual needs of the client. I also have many years experience working with families who have lost loved ones in ’Road Traffic Accidents’.
