About Sarah Weir
I am a Senior Accredited Member of the BACP, a psychodynamic counsellor psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor of other therapists with over sixteen years of experience. I have worked in many different agencies and settings with a diversity of issues. This enables me to get at the heart of your difficulties and to help you make the changes that you want to make in your life.
Coming to counselling for the first time can feel very daunting. I offer an initial consultation session which is a chance for us to talk things through and for you to get a feel for what counselling or psychotherapy might have to offer you without making any commitment.
If we feel together that further sessions would be helpful we can meet for on-going sessions. The heart of psychodynamic work is the relationship that we have together as therapist and client. I aim to provide a safe, warm, vibrant and energetic space to enable you to understand yourself in greater depth.
I offer both short term, focused psychotherapy or ongoing, longer term psychotherapy, depending on what you are looking for.
You might have a specific issue that is bothering you or you might not quite know what is wrong. Either way, counselling can help you to make sense of how you’re feeling and identify underlying issues that might be getting in the way of you making the changes that you want to make. Sometimes your problem might be with the situation that you’re in. You might be in a job or relationship that is making you very unhappy but for some reason can’t leave. Other times the problem might be connected to the way that you’re thinking and feeling about things.
Emotional difficulties are sometimes caused by thoughts and feelings that we are not always consciously aware of. These underlying difficulties or unhelpful patterns of relating can stem from the past and this can influence the way you interpret current events. Understanding the past and how it has shaped you, can help you to live more fully in the present.
I practice from a consulting room in Fife Road, in central Kingston, within two minutes of the train station and can offer both evening and daytime sessions.
