About Sue Mort Counselling
Nearly all of us at some time in our lives need a little help to deal with life’s challenges. As an integrative counsellor/life coach, my role is to provide a confidential, safe space where a therapeutic relationship can be cultivated allowing the client to explore their thoughts and feelings and enabling them to make any changes they feel appropriate. Although my work is underpinned by the humanist approach, I believe in the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and often incorporate these techniques. Being able to help someone to boost their self-esteem, to reach their full potential, to emerge from the debilitating darkness of depression, to escape the constraints of anxiety, to cope with the devastation of bereavement, or to overcome the painful effects of trauma (both recent and past) is hugely rewarding.
’Everything can be taken from a [person] but one thing; the last of the human freedoms - to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way’. (Victor E. Frankl)

My training, work experience and any achievement
I hold the Diploma in Counselling, BA (Hons) - 1st class - in Counselling and Psychology, and I am NLP, EFT and ASIST (suicide intervention) trained.
I originally came to counselling in 1997 volunteering with both the Samaritans (Bridgend) and Cruse Cymru (Neath/Port Talbot). I studied for the Certificate in Counselling Skills at the University of Wales College Newport in 1998-99, and later I attained the diploma in Counselling Theory and Practice with Well Training Ltd, Swansea. The practical component of the diploma was conducted at a local GP’s practice and a drug and
alcohol harm reduction agency and this experience is proving invaluable now.
I abide by the ethical guidelines of the BACP, of which I am a member. I am also an accredited member of the National Counselling Society and have public liability insurance with Howdens. As stipulated by these bodies, I continue to undergo regular professional supervision where I receive guidance and support from a highly qualified practitioner.

Testimonials:
"I have found the sessions with Sue far better than I thought they would be. I feel she has empowered me to make my own decisions which in turn has made me feel like the truly independent person I have always wanted to be. I would recommend her counselling to anyone I thought was struggling to cope. Thank you Sue".
"Thank you for all of your help. I hope you realise how much you have changed my life and outlook on it. I would recommend you to anyone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
"Sue has been an immense support through a difficult relationship ending. She has helped me to change my thought process and supported in a reflective and constructive process that has helped in my day to day life. I find Sue a warm and caring person who set me at ease from the first meeting. She has been a great support. Many thanks."
"I was on a very difficult journey, with no clear direction. Sue helped me look at myself and circumstances in an objective and honest way, and provided me with the tools to move my life forward. Thank you so much. X "
"When I came to counselling I didn’t know what I really wanted from my sessions. All I did know was I wasn’t enjoying my life very much and it was time to change. I am so happy that my journey of self discovery has opened my eyes and has let me see the world so differently. With help from CBT I now have the tools to enjoy life. I know I’ll encounter some difficult life challenges from time to time, especially being a full time working mother of two, but I am confident that I’ll deal with them differently from now on, and that the negative thinking won’t take over and rule my thoughts. I have learned that happiness is they key to life. To be writing this about myself makes me so proud and I can honestly say that I am now smiling from the inside out!"
"At a time when I was at my lowest, Sue helped me to talk about my feelings and thoughts and also where I felt I was going. She is a fantastic listener and if I confused myself so much that I couldn’t think anymore, Sue helped me to clear my head. Thanks to Sue, I am getting very strong and not allowing my problems to control my life. Thank you Sue."
"At first appointment I felt very negative towards therapy - couldn’t visualize, due to being a strong character, that it would have an effect on dismissing the event (i.e. the car accident). However, over the weeks my thoughts overcame my fears and gradually myself and my family noticed a significant change in my behaviour/fears whilst travelling. I have enjoyed the sessions and I now use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in every day thoughts. I have also noticed a dramatic improvement in my physical health since CBT started. Very useful therapy and I will continue to learn/study in this therapeutic system of healing."
"This has helped me get over my feelings of helplessness, of going in cars, and other aspects of my life. I was also lent a book to read ’Change Your Life With CBT’. This made me understand a lot that goes on in your head and to help you understand yourself. I would tell other people to read this to help with things in general. I’m glad I went to counselling - it has helped me be a happy person again. I haven’t been happy in a very long time."
"During my time with Sue, I found the sessions to be of great benefit. After going through a difficult marriage break-up, Sue listened intently, never judging, only supportive of positives that she felt I showed. I would recommend counselling, especially Sue. I would not hesitate contacting this service again if I felt the need to talk again. Many thanks Sue."
"The counselling I received helped tremendously. If I hadn’t got help when I did things could have got a lot worse. Counselling helped me put things into perspective. Sue helped me towards gaining my confidence and my happiness back. I’d already made the move towards sanity myself, Sue provided the encouragement and assurance I needed to continue. I still battle with anxiety but I can deal with it far better than before and I will always be grateful."
"Sue’s knowledge of CBT and surrounding areas has helped me understand my actions /behaviours/feelings and encouraged new ways of dealing with negative thoughts and feelings. Sue has been very supportive and I would like to thank her for all her help."
"I have found these sessions very intense on times, but to get and deal with thoughts and feelings, I realize you need to deal with them head on, even if you don’t like what you see. After 7 sessions I feel much more positive and realize the only way forward is to reflect rationally on things. And I would highly recommend therapy. I wish I did it much sooner."
"I am extremely pleased and grateful for the counselling I have received. My mood has completely changed for the better, thanks to these sessions. I would recommend this to anyone that is struggling to cope. Thanks so much."
"I found this counselling very good as it was appropriate for my needs. Medication alone was not enough and at the time that my counselling commenced, I was at a very low point. If it was not for my counselling sessions, I would think I would have been very unwell. I am very grateful."
"It has been very useful to me going to these counselling sessions. They have helped me to understand a lot of things that I was going through and how to put them right. It has definitely been worth it."
