How to Become Your Own Life Coach

Lisa Franchi March 29, 2017

No matter how mentally strong you are, there will be times that you’d find it more difficult to face life’s challenges. Obstacles are there in everyone’s journey to their dreams. And without the positive voice telling you “it’s okay”, “don’t give up”, or “you can do it”, it is easy to just give in and stop moving forward.

You can be your own life coach

Just as you can be your own best friend, you can also be your own life coach. And here are some ways to do it and become successful in your journey:

Acknowledge your challenges and shortcomings.

We hear most people telling us to focus on our strengths, not our weaknesses. But there’s no harm with acknowledging what your weaknesses are. In fact, it jump-starts healing and recovery, and boosts your motivation to improve. Being honest with yourself and recognising your challenges is the first step towards improving your life as it gives you a clear direction of what your action plan will be. Remember that you have the power to turn every weakness into strength, and obstacle into an opportunity for success!

Reflect.

We seek help from a life coach primarily to better ourselves. You may be wondering what you need to do to improve yourself. And sometimes, a good amount of silence and self-reflection is all you need to find the answer. Perhaps you have a few or plenty of things in your life you want to improve. List them down. Focus on each item, one at a time.

Keep learning.

There’s not a single psychology technique that is effective for everyone. This is why you need to educate yourself. Learn about different self-development tactics that you can apply to your daily life. Don’t be afraid or discouraged when some techniques don’t work for you. Keep trying. Keep learning. Keep finding the best approach for you.

Learn from others.

Listen to and be inspired by other people who have succeeded in their journey. Many successful people are generous to tell their stories, and share their tips and success secrets. Of course, recognising that your circumstances and needs are different is important. Still, you’re ought to learn something from them. And you will surely feel inspired.

These techniques can really help you become your own life coach, connect deeply to yourself, know yourself even more, understand your strengths and limitations, and develop habits that will make your life better and help you reach your dreams.
