Healthy Eating Hacks for the Underbudget
Have you ever wanted to stock your pantry with only the good stuff - maybe only the organic ones - but can’t afford it? You are not alone. Many people actually want to eat healthy but don’t have enough budget. The good news is it is actually possible to eat healthy without breaking the bank. Here are some great healthy eating ideas while still spending less:
Keep things simple. You need not stress yourself (and your wallet) by going for complicated healthy meals that contain ingredients which are not just expensive but also hard to find. Stick with simple meals, such as grilled chicken breast, steamed fish, baked potato or tossed salad.
Make it homemade. If you enjoy pickles so much, why not make your own? If you are fond of having salads for your dinner, why not make your own dressing? Not only will you be saving cash, you will also save yourself from extra sugar and unhealthy ingredients that your favourite store-bought salad dressings may have.
Spend less on dine-outs. Eating out is fun. But you want to limit it. There are really good and healthy dishes that you can prepare in your very own kitchen without spending so much like you would at a restaurant. Apart from saving money, opting for home-cooked meals is a great way to ensure that you’re eating only the good stuff for your body. When you prepare your own meal, you get to take control of how much salt, fats, seasoning, or sugar you add. You can also make healthy alternatives for some common ingredients.
Take advantage of sales and discounts. Usually, high-end stores that offer quality organic products run sales and offer discounts from time to time. So, when they do, take advantage of it! Nonetheless, you don’t want to stock up on items that you can’t consume for a long time. Check if these products are good to freeze or can be stored for a certain period of time.
Patronise local growers. Finding the good stuff can take effort. But too often, the effort is worth it. While grocery stores provide convenience, local supermarkets are where you find the freshest produce at a low price. That is because you get to buy the products directly from the producers who run their own stalls. So, set a schedule for buying fruits and vegetables. It’s going to save you a lot.
Cook extra. Whenever you have time, consider cooking extra which you can store in the freezer until your next meal. Stews, beans and soups freeze well. You can actually cook a little more of these, put them in containers and keep in the fridge. You don’t only save money this way. You also save time and effort.
Good food is not cheap, that’s true. But they can be affordable. With these simple hacks, you can eat healthy while spending less!
