Healthy & Delicious Ways to Prepare Your Meal
When you’re trying to stick to a healthy diet, it can get so boring. Salad for the nth time, smoothie drinks every morning, boiled potatoes, raw cucumber, carrot sticks. But eating healthy can be easy and it doesn’t always mean you have to stick to the traditional ways of food preparation. Here are some delicious ways to prepare your food without losing sight of nutrition:
Bake it.
When you use the oven, you open yourself to limitless possibilities of cooking delicious healthy food. When you bake, you use little to no oil at all. You also get to preserve the nutrients in the food. Baking is a great alternative to frying as you get to achieve the same crispy texture and awesome flavour without the grease and saturated fats. Yes, you can enjoy your favourite crunchy fries and chicken without dropping them to the deep fryer.
Boil it.
Boiling may seem like a boring cooking technique but it’s actually the easiest way to prepare good food. You can get more creative with the dipping sauce. Boil potatoes, string beans, cabbage, and many other vegetables. This way, you get to lessen the need for seasonings, such as salt.
Steam it.
The best way to preserve the nutrients of vegetables is through steaming. By steaming, there’s not much heat applied to the food so most of the natural compounds in the food do not get lost. It also retains the natural flavour of your favourite vegetable. Most rice cookers come with a steaming basket. Utilise it to prepare your delicious steamed vegie! You can make steamed dumplings too! Yum!
Blanch it.
Some greens that we put in the salad bowl may require some blanching. It does not only help preserve the nutrients and flavour, but also helps reduce the bitterness of the vegetable and give it that beautiful, vibrant green colour. To blanch your favourite vegetable, simply place it in a boiling water for a minute or two, then remove it immediately to place in an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
Roast or grill it.
Grilling is a great way to prepare meat and fish, and even vegetables! By grilling, you get to maintain the foods natural flavour and control the use of saturated fats. You may not even use oil at all when grilling meat anymore. Plus, the smoky aroma makes your food even more delicious. Roasting vegetables is a great idea too. Brussel sprouts are perfect when roasted. Simply season them with olive oil, salt, and pepper and then roast on a sheet pan for about 40 minutes and viola – a delicious meal that both young people and adults would love!
