Habits that Make You Age Faster

Sharon Moore June 05, 2017

We can’t defy the ageing process. We will get old someday. But this doesn’t mean we can’t slow down the process, does it? If you are guilty of any of the following habits, you are just making yourself age faster.

You love sweets.

If you rarely pass up dessert, you are just adding more years to your face. Sugar does not only make you gain weight. Sugar molecules attach themselves to protein fibres in your cells. This damaging process, called glycation, can result to wrinkles, dark circles under the eyes, loss of radiance, puffiness, and so much more.

You get less sleep.

Sleep is an important beauty regimen which does not cost a thing so make sure you get your daily dose of Zizz’s. Poo sleep can lead to lack of daytime energy, attention problems, mental sluggishness, and even weight gain. It could also trigger mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression.

You love watching TV so much.

If you’re always on a Netflix series marathon or movie marathon, you are not doing your body a favour. When you are watching TV, you are being sedentary. And as you may have known already, inactivity can lead to a host of problems, from sluggishness and feelings of depression to really serious physical illnesses. People who spend most of their life packed in a chair are at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, kidney problems, obesity, and cancer.

You wear too much makeup.

Okay, makeup can make you look more beautiful and younger – but only on the outside. Worse, too much makeup use can cause skin problems. Cosmetic products may contain irritating chemicals and alcohol agents that may dry your skin and cause premature wrinkles and lines.

You don’t drink enough water.

For a supple, beautiful skin, you should make sure you are getting enough water in your system. Hydration is key to younger-looking skin. Other sources of fluids are fresh fruits and vegetables. When it is hot and humid outside, make sure you are getting more than your usual water intake.

You have poor diet.

A well-balanced diet is necessary for a healthy, youthful body. You are what you eat. If you love eating whole foods – fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats – it will reflect on your body, from your hair to your fingernails. If you are eating junk food all the time, it will reflect too. A good diet is one which contains more whole produce and good fats (such as those from lean meat, olive oil, and fish). Snack on nuts, seeds and legumes too as they are rich in protein and vitamin E that nourish your skin.

Staying young doesn’t have to be expensive. By avoiding these habits and making positive tweaks in your lifestyle, you can slow down the signs of ageing.
