Five Workout Hacks to Maximise Calorie Burning
Admit it – whether you are experienced or a novice when it comes to working out, you are often faced with serious exercise routines that can totally exhaust and wear you out. So, it is important to make every minute count! And we’ve got some tips for that:
Get your workout playlist rocking.
Listening to music is one of the easiest and fun way to power up your workout. In a study by the University of Wisconsin, it was found that individuals who listened to music while exercising increased their average heartbeat by 10 beats per minute. They also worked harder and burned 7% more calories than their peers who exercised in silence.
Find your sweet spot.
Not all types of workout are applicable for you. People vary in body types, stamina levels, and calorie-burning abilities. While high-intensity interval training (HIIT) may sound like the best workout to burn lots of calories in a small amount of time, it doesn’t mean it’s also the best for you. Some people engage in workout plans that are way too intense for their body and lifestyle that they easily get burned out, thus, seeing no results. It is important to experiment on what types of exercise bring more results to your body and allow you to achieve an active lifestyle. For better, consistently higher calorie burn, experts recommend finding your ‘sweet spot’ in exercising – the pace wherein you experience laboured breathing but you can still talk in short sentences.
Challenge the gravity pull.
Want to level up your morning jog? Head to the hills. Run back and forth the stairs. Run at an incline. Jogging at a pancake-level terrain helps you burn 50% more calories than you would normally burn on a flat terrain.
Be mindful.
Watching the TV, texting or reading a magazine may feel like a good idea to try to minimise the discomfort or perhaps boredom that you feel when running on a treadmill or riding a stationary bike. But these things can all interfere with your focus and affect your performance. So instead of exerting some more effort, you tend to do less. Experts recommend paying attention to your heart rate, breathing, sensation in your muscles, and effort. This helps you stay focused on burning more calories.
Find a buddy.
Working out with someone can be fun. Not only does it make exercising more enjoyable, it also helps you stay motivated. In one study, researchers from Kansas State University found that people who exercised with a partner they thought was a little fitter and stronger than they were increased their workout time and intensity by as much as 200%!
