Become Successful by Ditching these Mental Habits
What’s keeping you from succeeding in life? It could be your mind. If you want to be successful in everything you do, start by eliminating the mental habits that sabotage all your efforts.
Stop pleasing others. People-pleasers want everyone to be happy and they will do everything to keep it that way, even if it’s already hurting them. But it is impossible to please others, especially when it comes to your success. And that is perfectly fine. Realise that you have a choice. Knowing your priorities and values helps you put the brakes on people-pleasing.
Stop having a ‘fixed’ mindset. Studies show that shifting from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset results in radical success. A growth mindset is one that believes intelligence and skill can be developed. By having this mindset, you are allowing yourself to unleash your true potential and achieve greater heights.
Ditch the impostor syndrome. The impostor syndrome is defined as “a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist even in face of information that indicates that the opposite is true.” One example is attributing success to dumb luck. You have to own your victories and be proud of them. After all, you’ve worked hard for it.
Take criticism positively. Who loves being criticised? Perhaps no one. But there’s such a thing called ‘constructive criticism’. While it may be difficult, accepting feedback and criticism is necessary for your success. Sometimes, you need other people to help you figure out your could-be-betters and increase your chance of success.
Stop fearing failure. Failure is part of success. And most of the time, it paves way to success. So why fear it? Instead of being afraid and trying to get away from it, let it guide you towards victory. Failures open up opportunities for learning. Mistakes make you realise many things and figure out how to make things better.
Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone’s journey is different. So there is no sense comparing oneself to others. Our natural tendency when we see people who have more success is to envy them. Successful people refuse to let envy take over. They train themselves to remember that there’s always more to someone’s story than meets the eye, so they become genuinely happy for others who achieve success. They also focus more on improving themselves and working hard so they can also achieve success.
Without us even knowing, sometimes, it is none but ourselves who actually make success difficult to reach. By eliminating these mental habits, you are making your journey to success easier and more meaningful.
