6 Ways to Maximise Your Brain Power
Your brain works hard 24/7 - non-stop. So it is important that you take good care of it. Here are some ways to strengthen your brain power and maximise it.
Feed it right.
Just like all the other parts of your body, your brain needs to feed too. But it needs to feed on the good stuff. Your diet has a huge impact on your brain health, as 20 per cent of all oxygen and nutrients that you consume. So you have to feed your brain with all sorts of nutrients, including vitamins and minerals, for it to keep going. A diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids found in fish like salmon, mackerel, and tuna.
Beware of inflammation.
Inflammation is the major enemy of your brain. When there is inflammation, there occurs a lot of bad things, including cell damage and hormonal imbalance. Toxins and chemicals can all trigger inflammation in your body, particularly your brain. Over time, this increases your risk of cancer, dementia, and mental health disorders. Studies have also linked inflammation with poor cognitive health. You can fight inflammation by increasing your intake of antioxidants as well as omega-3s.
See the glass half full.
Developing a positive perspective in life is another way to keep your brain strong. Yes, it’s not just about what you feed your body. It’s also about what you do. Did you know that stress and anxiety kill thousands of your brain neurons? Not only that. They also prevent new ones from forming. Research has shown that having a positive outlook speeds up the time it takes to create building new cells and also significantly lower your stress levels and anxiety. Learning how to view the glass half full rather than half empty is indeed a worthwhile thing to do.
Keep challenging your brain.
Just like your muscles, the more you work it out, the stronger your brain becomes. Try out activities that test your memory and concentration. Solve a difficult puzzle game online, play chess with a friend, answer some IQ tests. They may feel exhausting in the end just like a physical workout, but they benefit your brain big time over the long run.
Turn the radio on.
Or perhaps your favourite playlist on Spotify. Listening to music reduces your stress levels, which in turn benefits your brain. Better yet, learn to play an instrument. The act of learning itself challenges your brain and strengthens it, while the ability to create music is so therapeutic.
Workout your muscles too.
Exercising regularly boosts your brain power, big time. Not only does it enhances brain function, working out promotes neurogenesis too. Yes, each time you exercise, new cells are created in your brain.
