Surprisingly Easy Diet Hacks that Transform Your Health

We all want to eat better. Eat well. And eat clean. But for most people, doing this is really a struggle. With the vast availability of inexpensive processed food and snacks, it can be difficult to make a conscious effort to choose natural foods and make our own food from scratch.

But don’t worry. We’ve got some really easy diet hacks that will make healthy eating easier for you. Ready to transform your health? Here we go:

Favour more greens. 

Don’t let a day pass without gorging on some greens. Whether it’s broccoli, cabbage, asparagus or kale, green, cruciferous vegetables are definitely what your body needs every day. You need not make a complex meal out of it. Simply steam your veggie and dump on your plate. Greens go well with meat, eggs, fish and other foods. The nutrients in vegetables relax your blood vessels, lowering your risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases.

Spice up your plate.

If you haven’t been using cinnamon, turmeric, basil, oregano, thyme and many different spices, you better start now. Not only do they level up the taste of your food, spices are an excellent source of antioxidants and essential nutrients too! Turmeric, for example, contains an active compound called curcumin which fights inflammation and infection in the body. The creative use of spices is what separates a good cook from a typical one.

Watch your drinks.

What you drink does impact your health too, so be cautious about your beverage choice. Limit your alcohol intake and instead of those colourful concoctions, opt for red wine instead. Avoid fizzy drinks, sports drinks and other beverages that are high in sugar and artificial sweeteners. Just because they label says ‘diet’ doesn’t mean they are already good for your body. In fact, ‘diet drinks’ are considered more dangerous than their regular counterparts. So, beware. Instead, sip on antioxidants which you’d get from tea, coffee, milk and freshly made fruit and vegetable juice. Try to pack as many antioxidants as you can in your body.

Practice mindful snacking.

Many dieters pay so much attention to regular meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner. But your in-between meals or snacks can sabotage all your efforts if you don’t stay mindful. Perfect snacking options include nuts, fruits, vegetable salad, and whole wheat bread. Some studies suggest that people tend to lose more weight, especially in their abdomen, when they add nuts to their diet.

Love beans and fish.

Beans are an excellent source of protein and fibre. This superfood has been scientifically proven to help reduce the likelihood of death by 8 per cent. Beans make you feel full for longer, and lowers your bad cholesterol levels. And don’t forget your fish too. Eating at least two servings of fish per week can greatly lower your risk of various diseases, especially heart problems. Fish is very high in omega-3 fatty acids which fight inflammation, and is the best food source of vitamin D.
