Ways to Love Yourself Even More this Valentine’s Day

The Valentine’s season reminds us of beautiful, fragrant flowers, sweets, chocolates, wine, luxurious dates, and romantic moments with our special someone. Why not? After all, Valentine’s all about showing and giving love. 

But as a popular song goes ‘learning to love yourself… is the greatest love of all’, we should never forget to love ourselves too. Appreciate our vulnerability, embrace our imperfections, and address our personal needs.  

So this Valentine’s Day, don’t just give love to others. Give yourself the love that it deserves too! Here are simple ways to love yourself even more this Valentine’s: 

Make time for yourself 

You deserve it.  You deserve time for yourself. Valentine’s not just for the people you love. It’s also for you. Prioritise fitting ‘me time’ in your schedule. Whether it’s an hour in the gym or 30 minutes listening to your favourite playlist, commit to it.  

Compliment yourself.  

Don’t wait for other people to do it for you. Say something nice to yourself. Appreciate the way you look. List down your accomplishments, or simply write a ‘thank you’ note to yourself. You should be your own greatest ally. Realise that you are more precious than what you think you are. 

Forgive yourself. 

If there are things you’ve done in the past that you regret until now, give room for self-forgiveness. Now’s the perfect opportunity to forgive yourself and move forward. Realise that you are just human and like anyone else, you make bad decisions too. The most important thing is that you learn from that mistake and you try to make things better. 

Spend on yourself. 

Treat yourself to a spa. Shop. Buy yourself a new pair of shoes. Visit a salon. Buy a new set of makeup. If you can spend on other people, why not spend on yourself too? You’ve been working hard ever since. You deserve some self-pampering. You’re well worth the expense. 

Appreciate the world around you. 

Look up at the sky. Feel the fresh air touching your face. Watch the gorgeous sunset. Look at the stars - they are pretty incredible too! Appreciate the world around you. There’s so much more things to see and experience.   

Do something you really, really love.  

With your busy schedule, you may have hobbies or interests that you haven’t done so for a long time. It could be a sport, an art workshop, travel or simply a home baking activity. This love season, make it extra special by doing that thing you love the most. Have fun. You deserve it. 

Remember, Valentine’s not just about giving love to other people. It also means giving love to yourself, taking care of your emotional and physical needs, and appreciating yourself. Love yourself even more. When you do, you get to love others even better.
