Was your Website Affected by Google Update?

By NaturalTherapyForAll.com on August 18, 2011

We have received many enquiries recently from our therapist-members saying their own websites ranking dropped out from Google and they asked how to regain it. Here we thought we could write a little more about Google update. Hope this will help you understand more about Google and how its updates affect your website standing.

Each year, Google changes its search algorithm for about 500-600 times. While most of these changes are minor, Google rolls out major algorithmic updates once in a while. For online marketers schedule of such updates are crucial to better understand their site ranking.

Just this year, Google launched 3 major updates. First was the ‘Panda 1.0’ update which happened in February; second was ‘Panda 2.0’ last February to June and the ‘12-pack Sitelinks update’ which just happened this month of August.

What is Panda Update?

Google employs an engineer named Navneet Panda. His work refigured a bunch of search results and pushed a lot of websites down in the rankings and pushed some websites up. Google pushed down the rankings of websites that lack original content, has high bounce rate (users only stay on the sites for seconds), and has no social media engagements. On the other hand, good quality websites went upward in the Google search page. NTFA actually saw 40% traffic increase during the panda update.

What is 12-pack Sitelinks update?

Google rolled out expanded sitelinks, displaying up to 12 at a time for top-ranking sites (typically in brand queries) including secondary snippets.

What I can do to beat Google update?

To get better ranking results, your website content is highly important. It doesn’t matter if you only have few pages on your site as long as the contents are good, unique and useful. Try to write something your readers will find interesting to read. In this way, you are making them stay in your website a little longer.

Engage in social media marketing. If you made an update on your website content, don’t just wait Google to crawl your website. Post updates to your facebook and twitter accounts. You can also find quality websites to link to your own. If you have friends who maintain blog sites, take the opportunity to ask them to link your site to theirs.

By following these simple tips, you will never find your website dropping from Google’s ranking and see more potential clients viewing your site!
