A surprising research showed that people who are always too happy tend to die younger than people who are quite offhand. The study cited by Daily Mail Reporter on Reasons NOT to be cheerful: Happy people die younger than their grumpy peer; found out that people who are too happy are more likely to suffer from mental disorders such as bipolar tend to get real adventurous- having higher chances of meeting fatal accidents.
Doing things thought to make one happy leads to disappointments
Another study published in the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science, researchers asked a number of participants to follow some magazine tips to get happy. Said participants followed the advice from the magazine and watched a cheerful movie. The result showed that people who heed the advice on doing real hard to be happy ended up feeling angry and resentful. Their mood even got worse after watching the film.
The study revealed that the true key to happiness lies not on the superficial but in meaningful relationships with peers and family members. According to the co-author of the study, Professor June Gruber from the Department of Psychology at Yale University, USA, doing things because one believes it will make him/her happy can actually lead to major disappointments. Professor Gruber has strengthened the notion that happiness isn’t measured by money, external recognition through success and fame; rather having meaningful relationships with others. According to her “The best way to increase your happiness is to stop worrying about being happy and instead divert your energy to nurturing the social bonds you have with other people.”

One major reason why many people end up unhappy even though they seem to have everything in the world is the worsening relationship conflicts. A victim of abuse perhaps, may grow old bitter and aloof towards people; a child who came from a broken family may become indignant of others.
Making relationships work can make a big difference in making people happy. Strengthening relations thus, can greatly affect a person’s attitude towards life.
